One Christmas a long time ago
Santa brought me the greatest gift!
Yup!
That's me on Christmas day with my brand new
Holly Hobby sewing machine.
I sewed many a make-up bag for my teenage sisters and thier friends
with that baby.
I'm pretty sure I was in third grade there.
After I mastered the battery operated chain-stitch machine I took a
Singer sewing course at the local mall and made the most hideous
outfit ever - complete with a pinking shear accident on the sleeve.
It was nasty!
The instructors made me model it in the year end fashion show regardless.
Thankfully I didn't give up after the pinking shear incident
but rather found a love for creating and carried on.
Where did you get your start?
What are your first creative memories?
Oh my! I had the same machine! But then at the age of 10 my mom let me use her machine, a Singer. Before that I draped fabric on my Barbies to design and sew outfits! I have been sewing ever since. It wasn't until grade 12 I took a tailoring class that I truly enjoyed sewing, then I designed my grad dress, my wedding dress, have designed and sewed 6 flower girl dresses for my SIL about 10 years ago! Of the fun of sewing----love it! And I think I told you at our lunch that I took non-credit courses at Helen Lefeaux as well!
ReplyDeleteI am also a but obsessed with collecting fabric, can't help myself:)
How are you?
I love this Catherine!! I had a little sewing machine too, only I can't remember much about it because I'm such an old woman ;-) it's wonderful that your first sewing fiasco didn't disuade you from sewing because you're obviously so creative!

You look so sweet behind that sewing machine! My first creative memories are from the time that I was about eight years old. I used to make Barbie clothes at her mother's sewing machine. We had so much fun!

What a sweet memory! I had a teeny machine too, but it was never very effective. Wish I had kept it, it would be vintage by now!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and I look forward to meeting you too, so excited to meet other local ladies who like some of the same "stuff" as me.
